Cada país festeja los cumpleaños para celebrar una nueva etapa de la vida, dándole más importancia a cierto número de años según la etapa que represente, algunos festejan los 15, otros los “dulces” 16, otros los 50 o 60 años, en Corea una de las celebraciones más grandes en el cumpleaños de las personas es al 1er añito.
Esta es una celebración en grande, los padres invitan a los familiares y amigos, ofrecen comida a los invitados y estos regalan artículos y ropa para bebé, dinero y (los más allegados) anillos de oro para el bebé, este último me pareció particular pues en occidente no se acostumbra para regalo de bebé. Los invitados durante la fiesta disfrutan del banquete, ofrecen regalos, buenos deseos y cantan la típica canción de feliz cumpleaños.
En la fiesta los padres y el bebé visten con trajes tradicionales coreanos, y actualmente tienen la opción de contratar alguna empresa que les ofrezca la organización de la fiesta, planean el banquete, decoran el lugar y un animador se encarga de dirigir, amenizar con música y cantar durante la celebración. El momento más esperado de esta fiesta es el Doljabi, se trata de ofrecer al bebé diferentes artículos, tradicionalmente los artículos son: dinero, hilo, lápiz, arco y arroz, aun que actualmente se pueden agregar más a la canasta como un micrófono o equipo médico de juguete por ejemplo. Cada artículo tiene un significado diferente, si el bebé elije el dinero (que es lo que los padres y los invitados más desean) significa que acumulará riqueza, el hilo que tendrá una larga vida, el lápiz que será muy buen estudiante, el arco que será guerrero y el arroz que tendrá muchos patrimonios.
He tenido la suerte de asistir a este tipo de fiestas de cumpleaños, adjunto les dejo el video del momento más esperado de la fiesta, el Doljabi.

This is a big celebration, the parents invite family and friends, offer food to the guests and these in return give gifts for the baby like clothes, money and (the closest friends) gold rings for the baby, this one in particularly caught my attention because in the West it is not customary as a baby gift. Guests at the party enjoyed the feast, give gifts, good wishes and sing the traditional Happy Birthday song.
At the party the parents and the baby dresses in traditional Korean costumes, and now have the option of hiring a company that offers the organization of the party, plan the banquet, decorate the place and an animator, entertain with guests with music and sings during the celebration.
The highlight of this festival is the Doljabi, in this part of the celebration the baby have to chose an item, This item is supposed to predict the baby’s life. Traditional items are: money, thread, pen, bow and rice, now you can add more to the basket as a microphone or doctor's kit plastic toy. Each item has a different meaning, if the baby chooses the money (which is what parents and guests most want) means that the baby will accumulate wealth, the thread means long life, the pen means very good student, the arc means he will be warrior and rice that he´ll have many assets.
